The Allen Watson Guided Auger Boring team were tasked with installing a 660mmOD sacrifical steel sleeve underneath a railway track in Botley, Southampton. The depth of the installation was the largest challenge as the pits were dug to a depth of around 12m meaning the GAB.155v equipment had to be lifted into the pit. Furthermore, a 12m deep pit is considered a confined space therefore the working areas needed to have the adequate equipment and procedures in place. The purpose of the steel sleeve was to accomodate a 280mmOD PE100 SDR17 rising main, of which, the annulus between the pipe and the steel sleeve was grouted. Both steel sleeve and PE pipe were successfully installed.
