The Allen Watson Horizontal Directional Drilling team were tasked with the installation of a 219mmØ steel pipeline under a Railway and Taunton Canal near Creech St Micheal in Somerset. Due to the installation passing under a railway the design and method of the operation had to be authorised by Network Rail. The biggest challenge with this site was access as the drive side reached through very narrow country gravel tracks. The second biggest challenge was the permission to install targets onto the railway tracks to monitor for heave and settlement. Once both these issues were resolved the AWL team re-mobilised to site were the operations then went very smoothly. One of the greatest risk on site was the intense heat and sunlight experianced, so the AWL team ensured we all had sufficient hydration and suncream throughout the day. As soon as the pilot head encroached the angle of response or zone of influence (ZOI) operations are stopped for the day, as the pilot head is required to exit the zone in one continuous push or shift. This was achieved and once the hole was reamed and cleaned the 219mmØ steel pipe was successfully installed.
The Allen Watson auger boring team were tasked with installing a 150mmØ VC pipe at Amlets Lane in Cranleigh using our 85v thrust Boring system.
Installation of 660mmOD steel sleeve using GAB.155v Guided Auger boring equipment under a railway track at Botley, Southampton at a depth of 12m deep.
